Overview:
Death ball is a combination of hacky-sack and dodgeball. The object of the game is to be agile, strategic, and show no mercy!
Players:
The game must be played with a group of three or more.
Instructions:
- Form a group circle, which is known as the death circle. Everyone should be in a ready position, otherwise known as a “death stance”.
- The game begins when a player tosses the ball to another player in the circle and introduces the game by saying aloud, “Deathball”.
- At this point the object of the game is to volley the ball two consecutive times by two different players. Guys can use every part of the body except the hands and arms. Volleyball rules are allowed for ladies.
- After the two consecutive juggles the ball becomes active.
- Once the ball is activated, it can be caught and punishment ensues, which is the point when dodgeball comes in to play.
- If a player is hit by the active ball, they are out and they become “the perimeter”. This is to keep the ball from traveling too far away from the circle on an arrant throw.
- Once the ball is activated and caught, the offensive player has 3 seconds to throw the ball. After 3 seconds, the ball is deactivated.
- If the active ball is tossed and caught, the thrower is out.
- If a throw makes contact with the head, the thrower is out. No head shots are allowed!
Guys are encouraged to take it easy on the ladies, however this is not a “rule”…just encouraged. In fact, it is a contradiction of the main rule of the game; There is to be no mercy shown in deathball!
Additional Tips of the Game:
Tree, Wall, or Person Ball
A ball off of a tree, wall, or person is an active ball, and can be used for an out.
Wampler Rule
If an activated ball is thrown at a player, bounces off of that player, and is caught from the ricochet by another player, then both players are out. One is out for the hit, and the other is out for the catch. Also, at this point, the ball is still active, and it can be thrown for an additional out.
Flagg Defense
This defense is used as a smothering technique by holding the defender until the 3 second deactivation time has been spent.
Doran Defense
The art of this defense is to knock the activated ball to the ground in a way that no one catches it to attempt an out. ”If I cant have it, no one can!”
The Walker Run
When an activated ball is caught, you run like a coward as fast and far as possible to make an out more difficult. This preserves your time in the game. ”You might win the game, but you will lose your dignity!”
Two-Hand Thomas
This technique is used to provide more velocity to a throw by adding a little insult to injury to an out. ”It may look foolish, but it’s effective!”
Caroline Cover
The idea behind this technique is survival, once the ball is activated, you cower behind a weaker player, preferably one that is less agile and not likely to dodge the throw. Thus using them as a shield and preserving your time in the game.
Kamikaze Rule
This is an extention of the Wampler Rule. If an active ball ricochets off a player and is attempted to be caught by another player to get an additional out, but fails in that attempt (no catch), the attempted catcher is out. ”You will not be rewarded for a good effort, only a successful effort!”
Thom Frankie Rule
The bottom line to this rule is Thomas Frankie cant win! There is no explanation for this rule, im just here to enforce it. This is the only time in deathball that there can be a solo victory!
